Progress by Practice between lessons

Reasons Your Kids will LOVE to Practice Swimming Between Lessons

Pay attention to the progress. However small, however slow, however humble, pay attention to the progress. Notice all the ways your little swimmer is making progress, even in the midst of challenging swim days. Even these are progress, even when they don’t seem like it.

What is Effective Practice?

Practice is about ensuring that all children get optimum benefit from their experiences. This apparently simple outcome can only be achieved when we consistently develop our relationship with your little one to get to know them so we can support their development, learning and play. This in lessons only gives your little swimmer 30 minutes a week of practice time, which although is crucial, is not a lot of time.

Practice Makes Progress

Attending weekly swimming lessons consistently is so important. But equally important is spending time in the pool outside of lesson time. I see a huge improvement in children’s swimming abilities and confidence compared to those who don’t get as much pool time outside of their 30 minute weekly lessons. If you’re able to spend time with your little one in your home pool, or even at the beach in the sea if you don’t have access to a pool, it will really benefit and progress their swimming.

6 Reasons Your Kids will LOVE to Practice Swimming Between Lessons

1. It Makes Them Truly Happy (And Less Stressed)

With regular practice, children gain skills, confidence and they learn how to adapt what they learn in lessons. The result: High confidence, joy, and self-esteem! Stand proud little one...and then jump into that pool!

2. Swimming Engages Their Senses

  • Sight

  • Touch

  • Hearing

  • Vestibular (movement - such as balance)

  • Proprioception (body position)

Your child loves exploring new things. Sensory play encourages their motor skills and problem-solving skills. Knowledge is power and they’ll use this to progress faster during their lesson time!

3. It helps Them to Switch Off and not Overthink their Swimming

Once they know the essential tools for water safety, their water play can be free and loose in another environment - like a pool party. Free play fuels their imagination.

4. It Boosts Confidence with Friends

Children learn social cues, understanding, communication, listening, and more through socialization. Pool playdates outside of lesson time build that confidence, you'll see this impact in other areas of their life - school, parties, and family settings.

5. They Get to Play with You!

When parents play and engage with their children in the pool, the outcome is a deeper learning skill set. Sharing in their experience in the pool will help them want to practice and build on what they learn during their lesson time.

6. They Reach Their Potential - And THAT Feels Good!

For every step of your child's swim learning journey, they reach milestones. New goals are set, and then they reach those. Every time they master a new skill, their confidence builds. Swim practice outside of lessons and goal setting will give kids the joy of accomplishment and pride.

Smiling Faces at Swimming Lessons

Not all kids love swimming lessons immediately, but encouraging water play at home or at a friends pool can help them eventually find their flippers when it comes to swimming lessons. Slowly that smile, and their confidence, will grow!
